Maha Kumbh Mela – The Holy Bath

Maha Kumbh Mela is the biggest spiritual gathering in the world. It is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred or holy river. It happens in India for over than 2 months and more than 120 million people come in total. The specific date of the Great Bath of Grand Kumbh Mela is calculated upon stars constellation and their special position in the sky. The perfect position of the stars happens once in 144 years, even though Hindus make the celebration each year. It is believed that during the sunrise at the holy day, at the place where the three rivers meet (Ganges, Yamuna and Sarasvati), if you take a bath, all your previous sins will be washed away. The festival is one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world, and considered as the “World’s largest congregation of religious pilgrims”.
